Muhammad Nashir Addin Al-Albani: European Who Became Hadith Scholar.
Today, we will discuss about one Hadith Scholar. But, he doesnt Arabian, Persian, Turkish, or other ethnic from Middle East. But, he is European. He is Muhammad Nashr Addin Al-Albani. Muhammad Nashr Addin Al-Albani, has big service at Hadith ( Islamic Oral Teaching from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam ) s knowledge. He make classification for strong or weak Hadiths.
Muhammad Nashr Addin Al-Albani, born at City Of Shkodra, Albania, East Europe at 1914 AD. His father is Hajj Nuh Ibn Najati Ibn Adam Al-Ashkudari. At this time, Albania lead by one crime president, Ahmed Zogolli. President Ahmed Zogolli is radical-seculer leader. He forbid Muslim Women wear Hijab ( veil for woman in Islamic Traditions).
Hajj Nuh , moved to Syria with bring his child, Muhammad to Syria, exactly at City Of Damascus. He leave his homeland to keep his religion.
At 1923 AD, Ottoman Empire replaced by secular republic that founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. At 1925 AD, Mustafa Kemal , as first Turkey President, announced that caliphate ( at this context Ottoman Empire) was ended and Mustafa Kemal close religion schools at former territories of Last Islamic Caliphate. He also erased Arabian Language from Turkey and at this time, Turkey became secular state. At this time, Islam as religion looked die. Islamic Culture erased from former center of Islamic Caliphate. And, secularism, at this time, get victory.
Hadith Studies, occupied by West Orientalists at this time. Two French Orientalist, A.J.Wensinck and J.F.Mensing write book about Hadiths, ttled Al Mujam Al-Mufahras li Alfaz Al-Hadith Al-Nabawi. A.J.Wensinck , also write other Hadiths s book, Miftah Al-Kunuz Al-Sunnah.
At this time, Albani consent to studied Hadiths , at Damascus, Syria, after Ibtidaiyah ( Islamic Elementary School). He studied otodidacts to his father. Hajj Nuh make resolute rule for Albani studied Quran, Hadiths, Nahwu and Sharf ( Arabic Grammatical). From his father, Albani also studied about one skill: how to repair watch.Albani became popular watch services at Syria. Albani, when he doing research about Hadiths, he close his watch repairment shop and went to Library Of Zahiria. At this library, he research several books. Albani, also preach to Muslims at Syria for back to Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s teaching: Al-Quran and Hadiths as Muslim Way Life. Shaykh Albani get many conflict from several scholars. But, Shaykh Albani patient faced all this.
Shaykh Albani open course for several students at studies of religious book. Such as At-Targhib Wa Tarhib, by Al-Mundhiri, Nukhbah Al-Fikar by Imam Ibn Hajar, and other. At 1967 AD, Shaykh Albani imprisoned because a part from Sufism Teacher dont receive his teaching.
Shaykh Albani became lecturer at Islamic University Of Medina, Saudi Arabia. He became Hadith Lecturer from 1381-1383 H. Albani write several books, such as Takhrij Hadits Abu Said Al-Khudry Fi Sujudis Sahwi and Ahadits Isra Wal Miraj. According Palestinian Historian Jihad Turbani, he has big contribution at Hadiths discipline. He selected strong and weak Hadiths, until Muslim know, by his works , where strong Hadiths and where weak Hadiths.
Shaykh Albani, die at 1999 AD, at Hospital Of Jordan because his disease. Shaykh Albani, was leaved big contribution at Hadiths Knowledge. Even he doesnt has high formal education. Albani s story is lesson for us: Formal Education not still one way for success. But prime way to success is our hardwork and our struggle.
