According Imam Ibn Kathir, Arabian

Arabian at Hijaz worship to statue since era of Khuzaah Tribes ruled Mecca. Leader
Of Khuzaah, Amr Ibn Luhay, bring statue and put it at Kabah. Name of the statue
is Hubal. He put it and command Arabian at Mecca to worship it. Since this,
Arabian at Mecca worship to statue.
Statue that became god at Mecca not
only Hubal. Also exist other gods such as Al-Uzza, God Of Venus, Manat, God Of
Fate, and other. Arabians at Mecca, consider Allah at prime god, ut they also
worship to other god. This condition,
running at 7 TH Century.
For know history of Paganism at Arab, we need retreat to far era
before this. With i, we know, how idol, with shape statue entered Arabia and
how it enter to Hijaz.
At Pre Islamic Era, exist 3 big religions at Arabia Peninsula: Judaism, Christian,
and Paganism. Paganism/ worship to idol/statue became prime religion at Petra.
Petra, that fall at 106 AD, now, located
on Modern Jordania. People Of Petra worship to several gods. Beetwen them Allat
( Arabian Name Of Aphrodite) and Dushara ( Arabian Name Of Bacchus). People Of
Petra worship to Greek Gods, but with Arabian Name. Kingdom Of Tadmur/ Palmyra that now located
at Syria, also have Paganism Religion. They worship to God Of Sky. After Petra and Palmyra s age at North
Arabia, appear Kingdom Of Ghassan and Kingdom Of Lakhm that is Christian Kingdom. At Yemen, South Arabia, also appear Kingdom
Of Saba (750-115 BC) that their religion
is worship to God Of Month. According my opinion, Paganism maybe bring from
Greek to Arabia. Because Greek is one from Paganism Center at Ancient World and
similarity beetwen Arabian and Greek God.
According Historian Muhammad Bachrul
Ulum , Amr Ibn Luhay bring statue to worship from Syria. Maybe, Syria that
intended is Palmyra. Maybe Ruins Of Palmyra, because at 272 AD, Roman Empire
conquer Palmyra. According Historian Philip.K.Hitti, Palmyra have combination
culture beetwen Greek, Syria, and Persia. Historian Ibn Hisham mentioned that Amr Ibn
Luhay bring his statues from Mesopotamia/ Iraq . But, this argument, according
my opinion less strong for explain it. Because , at this time, Kingdom Of
Lakhmid that ruled Iraq is Christian and their boss, Sassanid Empire embraced
Zoroastrianism.
It is short history why Arabian
People worship to statue before Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam sended.
Maybe, need more archaeological proof
for this part.
