Utbah Ibn Ghazwan: The Simple Leader

about clever commander who conquer Iraq and became Mayor Of Ubulla City at
Iraq. He popular as his simpleness, and he is simple leader who doesnt want

When war beetwen Rashidun Caliphate
beetwen Empire Of Persia, City Of Ubulla at Iraq became supplier for Persian
Army. Caliph Umar Ibn Khattab want send army for conquer City Of Ubulla, but,
he doesnt has many army. He also has little army, because many Muslims was out
from Medina and join Muslims Army to
fight Persian Army.
Caliph Umar, send a little army
under his selected commander, Utbah Ibn Ghazwan, who is one from fighter at
Battle Of Badr, Uhud, and Khandaq. Utbah Ibn Ghazwan went to the battle. At
this army, joined also Utbah s wife and several Muslim Woman for logistic team.
Muslims Army numbered 300 warriors.
Utbah s army went to Bashra at 14 Years
Of Hijriyya, when Utbah and his army arrive at Bashra, they meet Persian Army
numbered 4000 warriors and they lead by one of Persian Commander.
Utbah make briliant strategy, he command
a group of Muslim Woman behind his army to bring warbanner and throw dust when
army walk , Persian Army, seeing this, thought Utbah bring many warrior and
they run from battlefield with boats at
Tigris River. Utbah can entered City Of Ubullah and he conquer several cities
around Ubullah.
Under command of Caliph Umar Ibn
Khattab, Utbah became Mayor Of Ubullah. He build new city, named City Of
Bashra. Bashra is new name for City Of
Ubullah. Building that build for first time by Utbah is mosque. Muslims
Residents at Bashra build their own houses, but Utbah only stay at camp. He
seeing Muslims Residents at Bashra live glamourly and eat Persian Food such as Faludzaj
and Laudzinaj. Utbah give a lecture to his people to life simpleness.
Utbah resigned from his position and
he went to Medina for report it. He appointed one of his people for became
leader at Bashra, and he said to Caliph Umar at Medina that he not want became
leader, but Caliph Umar forced him back to Bashra. And, Utbah die at journey to
Bashra. His camel fall and Utbah also fall, and he die at this time.
From this history, we can studied,
shahaba is so simple person, Utbah, though he is commander and mayor , he still
stay at camp when his people build their house. How with modern leaders? How
with a part of leaders who take people s assets for his pleasure? If we became
leader , we must be a leader who fear to Allah. Fear take people s assets for
our pleasure. Because leadership will evaluated by Allah at Akhirat.
