In Islamic History, exist Rihlah s book, Rihlah  is the notes from an Islamic Scholar s journey, in this notes, the scholar describe what he saw at his journey. The example of the Rihlah s book is Rihlah Ibnu Khaldun , Rihlah Ibnu Jubair, and Rihlah Ibnu Batutah, Rihlah usually tell geographical condition at territories that visit by this scholar and what do people at this place. Usually, Rihlah is not thick, besides primary and valid source at history, read Rihlah can make you like entered time machine.

Attempt to add your refrences, for beginner, i advise should you read Ensiklopedia Sejarah Islam  ( Islamic History Encyclopedy)that written by Islamic Research Team Of Egypt, because this is complete book about Islamic History that globally discuss Islamic History from Life of Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam , Islamic Caliphate, Islamic Dynasty, Crusade, Mongol Invasion, Ottoman Empire, until Islamic Minority history at several country. After this, try to search specific refrences who discuss a part from Islamic History for dive to Islamic History, example book that discuss Life Of Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam only, or book that discuss about  History Of Crusade only. Short, start from global, then, next by special. You must understand  the plot of Islamic History first, before understand other parts.
