Ikrimah Ibn Abu Jahal: From Villain To Hero.

Today, we will discuss about one from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s shahaba. He is Ikrima  Ibn Abu Jahal. At this young time, he is villain who became enemy from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam but at his end from his life, he became Islam defender. Ikrima Ibn Abu Jahal is son from one Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s biggest enemy, Abu Jahal.  His father, Abu Jahal often tortured Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s follower at Mecca. Ikrima follow his father to tortured Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s followers.  Ikrima Ibn Abu Jahal join his father, Abu Jahal to fight againt Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam and also he fight againt Muslims at Battle Of  Uhud and Battle Of Khandaq. And, when Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam conquer Mecca, Ikrima Ibn Abu Jahal and several Quraish Army at Mecca fight againt Muslim Army.  At 630 AD, Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam and his army entered Mecca and Quraish Infidel at Mecca submit. Ikrima Ibn Abi Jahal tried to collect several Quraish Army and resistance one from Muslim s military unite under Khalid Ibn Walid. But Ikrima defeated and he tried to run from Mecca. Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam command his army to chase and kill Ikrima-because he do resistance. Ikrima escaped and he run with his wife, Umm Hakim. Umm Hakim was convert to Islam. Umm Hakim ask Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam to dont kill his husband. Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam forgive Ikrima and Umm Hakim deliver it to Ikrima. Ikrima went to Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s house and he convert to Islam. Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam ask to Allah  for get forgiveness for Ikrima.

After convert to Islam, Ikrima tried to became good Muslims. He often read Al-Quran at mosque and often he cry because fear to Allah.

Ikrima also follow all battle to defend Islamic Goverment, Rashidun Caliphate after Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s die.  At Abu Bakar As-Shidiq s govement era ( 632-634 AD) , appear several rebellion that lead by several fake propeths at Yemen, Yamamah, and Oman. Ikrimah Ibn Abu Jahal became commander at era of Abu Bakar As-Shidiq and he help Caliph Abu Bakar at battle againt fake propeth Musailamah Al-Kadzab  and also help Caliph Abu Bakar  to handled rebellion at Oman. Seeing this situation, Byzantine Empire  send army to attack Arabia Peninsula. At 636 AD,  broke Battle Of Yarmouk beetwen Muslim and Byzantine Army.  Muslims Army numbered  26.000 army under Khalid Ibn Al-Walid and according Historian Ibn Katsir, Byzantine Army numbered 240.000 army. Ikrima Ibn Abu Jhal follow this battle as one commander at Muslims Army.  When Muslims Army  almost defeated, Ikrima fight bravely and he fight until die at this battle.  But, Muslims Army can achieve victory at this battle.

Ikrima Ibn Abu Jahal, at his early life is villain who became enemy of Islam.  But, at his end of his life, he die because defend Islamic Goverment at one important battle. From this story, we can learn, villain not forever villain and dont condemn villain at this time, we may not agree with his criminal, but dont attack his character. We must pray he will be good people at future.
